What is a pollinator? Bees, butterflies, moths, hummingbirds, bats, and other fascinating animals are important components within an ecosystem. A healthy ecosystem has many parts that work together and pollinators are a perfect example of this phenomena. In this unit, students discover the role of a pollinator in an ecosystem and why pollinators are so important for all life on Earth- including humans! Students will learn all about pollinator species that we are likely to see in the Pacific Northwest and what makes them unique. Through science, art, social studies, math, and English language arts, students are able to fully explore one of the most important ecosystem servicesEcosystem Services The benefits that the environment provides for human communities, such as food, filtering air and water, and decomposing waste. on the planet: pollination.

Important information about borrowing a kit:

  • We offer these kits for free to Washington County Educators. ECO kits are supplied with necessary materials and instructions. If you are missing any supplies, please let us know!
  • Standard loan time is 3 weeks. If you need more time, please indicate that on your request form.
  • Please arrange a time to pick-up your ECO kit at our office (7175 NE EvergreenEvergreen Plants that maintain their leaves all year long. Pkwy #400, Hillsboro, OR 97124) as well as a time to return it to our office. We may be able to arrange a staff member to bring the kit to you.
