2023 Oregon Oak Seedling Giveaway

November 14, 2023 @ 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Oregon white oak trees (Quercus garryana) provide a key habitat in Washington County and this essential habitat is in decline. Oak trees are known as a tolerant species that can survive droughts and fire and they support dozens of rare birds and wildlife species. Tualatin SWCD is working to protect this unique and threatened habitat.

Join us for our second annual Oregon White Oak Seedling Giveaway! We have 200 seedlings ready to distribute.

Do you have a good place for an Oregon white oak tree seedling?

  • Our free seedlings must be planted in Washington County or in the Tualatin River watershed.
  • Oaks need sunny areas away from other trees and in soils that drain well (i.e. don’t stay wet all winter).
  • You will need space for a tree that could be 100 feet tall and just as wide in 100 years.
  • Trees should not be planted close to buildings.

Please note, Mediterranean Oak Borer has recently been detected affecting Oregon white oak trees in Oregon. To learn more visit our Weed & Pest Directory entry here.

Reservations for the 2023 oak seedling giveaway are now closed.

A limited quantity will be available for walk-ups without a reservation on a first come, first serve basis on November 14th, 2023 from noon to 5:00pm at Fernhill Wetlands. Oak acorns and complementary plants will be available for those without an oak reservation.
