2022 Oregon Oak Seedling Giveaway
November 17, 2022 @ 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Oregon white oak trees (Quercus garryana) provide a key habitat in Washington County and this essential habitat is in decline. Oak trees are known as a tolerant species that can survive droughts and fire and they support dozens of rare birds and wildlife species. Tualatin SWCD is working to protect this unique and threatened habitat by launching our first Oregon White Oak Seedling Giveaway this year! We have 100 seedlings ready to distribute.
Do you have a good place for an Oregon white oak tree seedling?
- Our free seedlings must be planted in Washington County or in the Tualatin River watershed.
- Oaks need sunny areas away from other trees and in soils that drain well (i.e. don’t stay wet all winter).
- You will need space for a tree that could be 100 feet tall and just as wide in 100 years.
- Trees should not be planted close to buildings.
Reserve your oak ahead of time
Seedlings will be available for pick-up at Fernhill Wetlands on November 17th from noon to 5pm.
At the pick-up location we will have experts ready to talk with you about where to plant your oak and how to care for it. Up to 5 oak tree seedlings are available per person. Each seedling will come in a small pot you can take home with you.
A limited quantity will be available for walk-ups without a reservation on a first come, first serve basis.
