Wildfire Ready! Part 1: Film Screening & Panel Discussion

February 27, 2025 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Kick off the Wildfire Ready 2025 Event Series with an evening of learning and conversation. This free event begins with a one-hour documentary film screening exploring wildfire’s impact and the balance between human communities and wildlands.

The evening will begin with a screening of the documentary, Built to Burn.

This film was directed by Courtney D. Campbell and released in 2022. “Built to Burn explores a pattern of growing fire risk emerging from a confluence of factors  – decades of aggressive fire suppression, increasing development in fire-prone areas, and a longer, drier wildfire season due to climate change.”

Following the film, a panel of local experts will lead a discussion on:

  • Washington County’s wildfire history and ecology
  • Emergency preparedness systems and fire response strategies
  • How you can contribute to community wildfire readiness

Panelists:

  • Chris Walsh, Senior Technical Program Manager for PGE’s Wildfire Planning & Analytics
  • Jen Warren, Fire Risk Reduction Specialist, Oregon State Fire Marshal
  • Mike Cafferata, Forest Grove District Forester, Oregon Department of Forestry
  • Moderated by Brandy Saffell, Conservation Specialist | Forest Conservation Program, Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District

This event is a great opportunity to learn, connect, and take the first steps toward wildfire preparedness.
