Grants for watershed conservation in Washington County:

The Tualatin River Environmental Enhancement Grant (TREE) awards $5,000 to $100,000 for projects that promote conservation within the Tualatin River watershed. This grant program allows us to amplify our mission by supporting other groups in Washington County.

We award grants on a competitive basis until annual funds are depleted. Funding is provided on a reimbursement basis. The annual application deadline is August 15th. If funds remain after that deadline, a second round will be held, with applications due February 15th.

NEXT APPLICATION DEADLINE: February 15th, 2023. A Statement of Interest is due by January 1st, 2023 to be considered for this application round. Access to the full application form will be provided after a Statement of Interest is received.

Eligible applicants:

TREE applicants must be one of the following:

  • Nonprofit organization
  • Native American tribe
  • For-profit organization
  • Educational institution
  • Government agency

Project criteria:

The proposed project must:

  • num-1a
    Advance the mission of Tualatin SWCD
  • num-2a
    Be in Washington County
  • num-3
    Provide a clear public benefit
  • num-4
    Be completed within 36 months of the grant agreement being signed
  • num-5
    Address one or more of the following conservation topics:
    • Water quality or water quantity
    • Soil health or erosion
    • Invasive species management
    • Fish and wildlife habitat
    • Forest health

The applicant must provide a 25% funding match. The match can be provided in the form of cash, labor, and/or donated materials.

  • Application Deadline

    The annual application deadline is August 15th. If unallocated funds remain following that grant cycle, a second grant cycle will be held in the same fiscal year, with an application deadline of February 15th. Please check the top of the page to confirm the next available application deadline. 

  • Submit Online

    You must submit a Statement of Interest form through the online portal Submittable at least 45 days prior to the application deadline (i.e. submit by July 1st for the August deadline, or January 1st for the February deadline). Once the statement has been received, you will be given access to the full grant application form and will be able to receive technical guidance from someone on our staff.
